Our Mission

The mission of the Basic Needs Center is to support student success and well-being through holistic, student-centered services that reduce barriers, promote equity, and connect students to essential resources needed to achieve their educational goals.

We believe that when students feel supported, stable, and connected, they are empowered to succeed in college and beyond.

Vision

The Basic Needs Center envisions a campus community where every student has equitable access to the resources, support, and opportunities needed to thrive academically, personally, and beyond the classroom. We are committed to creating a caring, inclusive, and student-centered environment where students facing food, housing, transportation, and financial insecurities feel supported, valued, and empowered to overcome barriers to success.

Through holistic services such as an on-campus food pantry, CalFresh application assistance, housing support, transportation assistance, school and hygiene supplies, wellness resources, prevention education, and community referrals, the Basic Needs Center promotes student stability and belonging. By addressing essential needs, we help students fully engage in their education, achieve their goals, and reach their full potential.

Our center provides access to food assistance programs including a campus food pantry, daily food options, grocery cards, and referrals to community partners.

We offer assistance with housing resource referrals and housing insecurity and prevention grants.

Our program assists with financial aid programs, financial literacy and budgeting workshops, and emergency financial support.

Our center provides referrals to counseling services and health and wellness coaches, workshops on stress management, and referrals to mental health resources.

We aim to improve academic and social outcomes by increasing student retention, success, and completion rates among students attending 91ÊÓƵ who are housing and food insecure.

See our for ways you can support our community.

Redwoods Room & Board Scholarship

The Redwoods Room & Board Scholarship Fund supports CR students who are experiencing homelessness or who are housing insecure.  This scholarship provides semester grants so that these students can live in CR's residence halls and have a meal plan in the cafeteria.  The goal is to ensure these students have the opportunity to focus on their education rather than on their daily survival. 91ÊÓƵ was the first college in the nation to provide on campus housing and meal plans for its students experiencing housing insecurity or homelessness.
