1. Assembly Bill No. 1111 requires all California Community Colleges (CCC) to adopt a common course numbering (CCN) system for most community college courses. The CCN system assigns the same course number to courses across all CCCs to streamline transfer from CCCs to Universities within California and reduce excess credit accumulation. 
2. Simply put, the CCN courses are a renumbering of existing 91视频 (CR) courses. Otherwise, the courses are considered the same and will be treated similarly. 

CCN implementation will begin with three major phases. All 91视频 (CR) courses, programs and general education patterns will be updated to reflect the new CCN. 

1. Phase I includes 6 courses and becomes effective in the 2025 鈥� 2026 academic year.
2. Phase II includes 25 courses and becomes effective in the 2026 鈥� 2027 academic year.
3. Phase III includes 60 courses and becomes effective in the 2027 鈥� 2028 academic year.

The CCN system adopted a standardized naming convention that all California Community Colleges will use for only CCN identified courses. Since Common Course Numbering (CCN) changes 91视频鈥� (CR) course names and numbers, CCN may not directly align with CR鈥檚 current course numbering system. For example, CR鈥檚 ENGL-1A: College Composition course name and number will change to the CCN course name and number of ENGL-C1000: Academic Reading and Writing. 

1. Each course subject will have a 4-letter abbreviation.
2. Each CCN course number will also have 4 characters and be preceded by the letter 鈥淐鈥�, which indicates that it is a Common Course Number.
3. Some CCN courses may have up to two specialty identifiers to indicate special attributes of a course such as a lab only course (L) or a course with embedded support (E).

1. CCN reduces barriers to transfer between California Community Colleges and to a UC or CSU by ensuring that course equivalencies are clear and consistent, minimizing the risk of lost credits. 
2. CCN makes it easier for all students, particularly those from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds and first-generation students, to better understand which courses they need. 
3. CCN will allow students to complete their degree or transfer requirements more efficiently, potentially reducing their time to graduation and easing the transfer process to a UC or CSU. 
4. CCN ensures that all students, regardless of the California Community College(s) they attend, are held to the same academic standards. 

Yes. CR鈥檚 CCN courses function the same as any other CR course. 

1. You still have three attempts to successfully complete a course within the California Community College (CCC) system. The CCN course and the former CR course are treated the same. The maximum of three attempts includes all the attempts taken for both the previous CR course and CCN course taken at CR or any other CCC. 
2. If you did not pass a CR course, your non-passing grade can be replaced with the CCN course if completed at CR. At this time CCN courses completed at other CCCs cannot replace 鈥淒鈥� or 鈥淔鈥� grades at CR. 
3. If you have successfully completed a course at CR, or another California Community College (CCC) prior to the transition to CCN, you will not be able to retake the CCN course at CR or another CCC. 

1. If you complete a course prior to CCN, the previous CR course name and number will appear on your transcripts and the courses will count for same transferability and general education status, if applicable, prior to the transition. 
2. If you complete a CCN course, the CCN course name and number will appear on your transcripts. 

1. If you are in progress of completion or have completed a course prior to CCN, the CR course name and number will appear on your Student Education Plan (SEP) and Program Evaluation. 
2. If you have a 鈥減lanned鈥� CR course name and number in your SEP, the CCN course name and number will be displayed.   
3. The former CR course name and number & CCN course name and number will be treated the same and continue to satisfy the same requirements.
